WordPress Hosting

In addition to our Standard Hosting (£60 pa), we now offer two hosting solutions created specifically for WordPress site owners not wishing to get involved in the technical side of running their sites.

Supervised WordPress Hosting takes our standard hosting and adds continuous WordPress core file and plugin updates with added security reporting. Need to concentrate on editing your site without worrying about updates to the core system? Our Supervised WordPress Hosting is the answer.

Managed WordPress Hosting is our five-star ‘bells & whistles’ service with enhanced speed, storage, security, offsite backup and disaster recovery features. Based on our unmetered hosting account, it provides a one-stop solution for the ongoing security, maintenance and backup of your WordPress website. Got better things to do than to keep your site files up to date? Don’t want to worry about making file and database backups or fending off hackers? Our Managed WordPress hosting is the solution.

A step up from our standard hosting, specifically for WordPress site owners who don’t want to get involved in updating the core software and plugins. We will add your site to our central synchronisation facility and update the core software and plugins for you whenever needed.

This doesn’t include all the backup and recovery features in the Managed WordPress Hosting account, but offers a considerable saving over standard hosting plus paying us to update WordPress versions on an ad-hoc basis. It has the added benefit of keeping your WordPress plugins updated too.

Supervised WordPress Hosting includes our standard security plugin with reporting facilities, plus regular database backups emailed to you.

  • Standard hosting account
  • Centralised monitoring for WP core & plugin updates
  • WordPress and plugins updated as new versions are released
  • Standard security plugin installed
  • Basic SSL certificate option
  • Emailed database backups
  • Monthly site backups

£180 pa per site (or £17.99 pm)
No setup fee for sites we’ve designed.

Fast cloud-based hosting with unmetered diskspace and bandwidth. Plenty of room for your site files and email storage, with the ability to attract lots of website traffic. Ample storage space for IMAP or POP3 email, plus webmail access. CPanel hosting account control panel with visitor stats and a wealth of features.

We install and maintain industry-standard security plugins to monitor your website files and report any potential problems, as well as helping to keep hackers at bay. We provide and install a basic SSL certificate which encrypts all web traffic and your WordPress admin sessions (and may potentially provide improved Google rankings). The certificate is renewed each year.

We undertake to keep your WordPress core files updated whenever new releases are issued, including your plugins and themes. The WordPress installation is regularly backed up onsite (for faster recovery) and offsite (for increased security). Please note that updates to your website content are not included in this service.

Disaster Recovery
We’ll work to get your site running again if it gets hacked or if an update breaks things, by restoring from the most recent backup. If a WordPress plugin proves incompatible with a future WP update, we’ll even try to get a replacement working if a suitable one is freely available.

Managed WP hosting account FAQs

Why is ‘SSD-based’ hosting fast?
Your website files are stored on ultra-modern solid-state drives, so have no mechanical parts to act as bottlenecks.

Is the hosting unlimited?
It’s unmetered – there are no set limits on diskspace or bandwidth (monthly data transfer). There’s no such thing as ‘unlimited’, it’s just a marketing term!

What security do you use?
We use two industry-standard WordPress plugins which make it difficult for all but the most determined hackers to gain access. Get in touch and we’ll bore you with the details 🙂

Why back up twice – onsite and offsite?
Onsite backups are ideal for a fast restore time if WordPress goes wrong. Offsite backups store your files safely away from the hosting account in case of server problems. Belt and braces!

Do I really need to have WordPress updated all the time?
Yes.  If you don’t keep your site files up to date, you are making the web a less safe place for you and everyone who visits your website. If you get hacked, you may lose professional credibility and custom.

Will hackers target my site?
Yes. It’s frightening. Their automated software constantly scours the internet looking for vulnerable sites. Because it’s popular software, WordPress gets a fair amount of attention and is a favourite target if found to contain outdated and vulnerable software.

What would a hack do to my site?
It might set up malware which downloaded to site visitors’ computers, it could use your site to send out spam email, it could simply display a political or obscene message, delete every file in your hosting account or even attempt to take over the whole server. There are many different scenarios.

How often do you update the WordPress files?
There are usually three or four major WordPress releases per year, but WordPress themes and plugins have updates released much more regularly. We use a centralised system which informs us when your site has updates available and we carry them out at least once a month.

Why can’t I just set WordPress to do all updates automatically?
You could, but sometimes a conflict between updated and old files can stop your site from working. When the update is processed and checked manually, a ‘broken’ site can be restored immediately with very little downtime and hassle for your site visitors.
