Commissioning a new website from scratch – it can seem like a complicated task and the thought of all that html code and domain name whotsits puts some people off. Lots of 
small business clients tell us that they’ve been ‘meaning to get a website done’ but didn’t know how best to go about it.
The answer? Give us a call and arrange to drop by – you’ll find out exactly what’s involved, what you need to do and how to go about the task. Importantly, you’ll also find out how much you should expect to pay to get the job done (you’ll probably be pleasantly surprised!).
When we’ve been commissioned and you’ve provided us with the information and content you want to be included, we start work on the site. We’ll aim to come up with a layout you like and agree on the structure of the site, then take the project on to completion. If the site looks like it’ll take a long time to complete (sometimes a client’s priorities change mid-project) you may be asked for an interim payment, but usually you’ll be billed when it’s all done and dusted.
The job isn’t finished there. We’ll host your website too (that means storing it on a fast, permanently net-connected server) and provide you with a statistics program to analyze the hits it gets. You’ll be able to see how many unique visitors you’ve had, the sites they click through from, the searchengines they’ve used to find you and the phrases they typed in to bring your site up.
You’ll also get mailbox facilities, being able to choose your preferred set of email addresses at your site (such as sales@yoursite.co.uk). Email comes with webmail features too, so you’ll be able to use your email address when you’re away from your own computer. If you prefer a ‘forwarder’ which sends messages through to your existing email address, that can be arranged too.

If your business already has a website, you can’t afford to sit back and ignore it. The content needs to be kept fresh and relevant. You should also take any opportunity to evaluate its layout and content in order to improve its performance.
If you’re confident with web design and graphics software, website maintenance is something you can undertake yourself. 
The task is made even easier if your site uses a CMS system to update the content. If neither of these apply, Wensum.net can update your site for you – on a frequent regular basis if required. We’re available during office hours (unlike many webdesigners who work part-time from home) and work can usually be carried out within a short timescale.
Not sure whether you website has been created to make the best of the searchengines? Has it been live for ages and is starting to look tired and dated? Ask for a report on the way your pages have been made – for a modest fee we’ll tell you how their performance on Google can be improved and whether your message is being presented to visitors in the right way. If you decide you want a bit of an overhaul, or even a complete site makeover, just ask for a quote.
A word about SEO (Search Engine Optimization). You may have been drawn in by companies promising to ‘get your site to the top of Google’. Well, there is only one guaranteed way to do this and it’s by paying Google more than your rivals to appear on their ‘Sponsored Links’ list. SEO is a very complex subject and the goalposts tend to be moving all the time – for that reason it can be a costly business to employ a dedicated SEO company. The cost-effective way to approach the subject is to make sure your site is developed with search engines in mind from the start. We can do that for you.
